A Survey of Reproductive Performance in Sows in a Number of Pig Herds in Victoria

Some of the data required for this purpose are not recorded in the majority of commercial herds. From the fact that the herds studied kept more comprehensive records it can be reasonably assumed that the standard of management and the level of performance obtained in these herds were not typical of the industry at large. For the present study this could be considered an advantage since a further aim was to pinpoint those particular aspects of reproductive performance that were limiting the levels of sow productivity achieved in a number of well-managed herds.
